Existing server showing offline - cannot get it back for love nor money

I’m a software developer so not afraid of a linux command line, however I cannot for the life of me (after 5 hours) get a linux server back online.

I’ve tried to remove entries from Preferences.xml in order to re-authenticate the server but it still shows “SERVER is currently offline” when looking at the web app.

Can someone please tell me how I get this thing back online before I give up and look for an alternative solution?

Plex used to “just work” but lately it’s been a total nightmare with authentication, inability to access a server even locally (127.0.0.1) and various other issues. What’s happened?

The linux logs give me no useful information, and after a while the server just disappears from my server list completely so I’m back to square one.

How can I be accessing the web app via 127.0.0.1:32400/web (on the broken server) and then only see my other servers in the list, not the one I’m actually connected to?

Managed to remove Preferences.xml completely and re-log into the server. I was then told it wasn’t secure and I needed to Claim it. Which I did, only to then be greeted with:

How can I “Open Plex” from the mac or windows system tray when this is a remote headless linux VM?

What a joke…

Is your server hosted at Hetzner by any chance?

Yes it is!
But it’s worked 100% of the time until recently.
Is the hosting provider the problem?
Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately Plex have recently blocked the whole of Hetzner ip addresses, so you can no longer use Plex on Hetzner servers .

Huh? Why would Plex do that? Why do they care where my server is?

There is a huge thread here:

Right. Well I had zero notification of this, have wasted hours of my life trying to figure out what’s going on, and quite frankly I’m massively pissed off that Plex are now getting into the business of blocking IP addresses of servers people are paying for to run their own personal stuff.

How dare they?!

Sorry I’m late to this discussion but thanks @blim5001 for pointing me in the right direction.

James.
