Expected Behavior for tuners in use before a recording begins

I’ve been using Plex for about a month now switching from Windows Media Center for Live TV and DVR. So far, the experienced has not been stellar, but I am optimistic that Plex will continue to provide support and updates to the functionality (unlike Microsoft with WMC).

I’d like to ask what the expected behavior is for watching Live TV when a time period comes that will require the use of all tuners (from my SD HDHR Prime). For example, we might be watching a live channel and using 1 tuner. In the next hour, we have 3 recordings scheduled. What is the expected behavior of Plex in this scenario? Will it alert us to this and allow us to free the tuner up so that it can be used by the DVR? or will scheduling priority take over and fail on the least important recording?

The ideal behavior would be to kick us off of the Live TV and begin recording all 3 scheduled recordings. Or present a warning allowing us advance warning to go ahead and stop watching Live TV so that all 3 tuners are available.

Thanks!

Yes. My experience is that, five (or ten?) minutes before the conflict occurs, the Plex client will warn you. You are given the opportunity to keep watching live or give up the tuner. Taking no action (if you’re away from the client, for example) will result in the live session being ended so that all the scheduled recordings occur.
