That being said… keep in mind you’re comparing files with „visible items“ in your library. Those two don’t have to add up. In fact there’s a number of reasons why this can happen, such as:

different-quality versions of the same movie are merged as the same item in Plex

multi-file movies will be appended in Plex and show as a single library item
https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/ -
depending on how you configured your library (or individual collections), the presence of collections will impact the number of library items (e.g. 1 lord of the rings collection vs. 3 individual movies).
