Plex states I have 2000 movies, yet I have 2100 mkv files in my movies directory. Whats the best way to figure out what 100 files arent being displayed in Plex. BTW I have NO duplicates listed in Plex.
Is there a way to get a db dump of the movies, then I can compare it to a directory listing?
Before digging into the belly of the beast (database)… have you already checked if the difference could be based on collections? Plex only shows the number of items – not files. If your library is hiding items which are part of a collection, this could explain the gap.
In order to verify, simply sort your library by anything but by title.
If that doesn’t explain the difference in numbers – check out Export Tools from the WebTools-NG package.
Collections can be used to group movies – e.g. movie franchises like The Lord of the Rings, X-Men, The Godfather… Your libraries can be configured to create those automatically.
If sorted by title, Plex will by default only display the collection – opening it will show its items. So you’ll e.g. have 1 item displayed for “The Godfather” collection instead of 3 individual movies.
WebTools is acting like a Plex Client. It’ll connect to your server but instead of navigating your library and playing media, it’ll compile the requested information for you.
Steps are basically:
Install & run the app
Sign in with your Plex credentials (username or e-mail address + password; optionally 2FA verification code)
Select the server (top bar, next to the Reload button
Select ExportTools in the sidebar
Select media type (e.g. tv-shows), sub-type (e.g. shows, episodes), which library you want to export and the “Export level” (those are explained on the project homepage)
Click Export Media (this will export information about your media/database… not the media itself!)
Wait for it to complete… this might take a moment
Optionally you can adjust the export configuration in Settings (right under the ExportTools sidebar entry (after step 4)
