I have a movie library of 2,365 movies, each movie in it’s own folder. In Plex web, if I view the library “By Folder” it shows 2,365. If I view the library as “All,” it shows 2,370 items. Where did the extra 5 items come from?
Likely the only way to do find out, is use something like Plex2CSV and sort through by directories. It could be you have a couple of movies in the same folder. Where they are a part 1 and part 2 of a movie, like Harry Potter 7 (and 8) or Twilight whatever they are. (The last ones of the series.)
If that’s the case, your system might be seeing it as a multipart movie unless your naming conventions are dead on the money. BTW, I use a separate folder for each movie and go a step further. I break them out by alphabet of the first whole word of the title. So all of the “O” movies, and each in a separate folder after that.
Some OSes can only deal with a finite number of files or folders in a given folder. And I figure it’s going to take a long while doing it the way I am before I hit that cap. But if I did it all lumped into a single folder, as some people do, I can hit that with posters, subtitles, nfo files and the like.
It’s refreshing to see others do it this way. There are a few of us doing the alpha and separate folder for each movie. I find it a lot easier to find them this way.
Plex2CSV results in only 2,368 entries. I do have some multipart movies but they are grouped correctly in the Plex2CSV output. If I select “Check if files actually exists” in the Plex2CSV options, I get a value of 1-1 for a 2 part movie.
All lumped into a single folder! What madness! I can see some benefits of doing the alpha but I just went through my entire library fixing incorrect matches and don’t want to repeat the work.
I keep a separate library for watched movies, as I am the main Plex user, and move movie folders between libraries. My watched library is even bigger and the item count matches between “By Folder” and “All” views.
Some additional plug-in to try-
Find Unmatched: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/87745/rel-find-unmatched-items/p1
Find Missing: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/95148/rel-findmissing-files/p1
I have gone ahead and broke down my folders further by doing the alpha. It is still wrong. I go into " By folder" view for each alphabet and note the number of items. This matches the number of items in Windows explorer. I add these all up and they equal the 2,390 items I have. I change the view to “All” and the item count is again 2394!
