Exporting metadata

Sorry if this has been answered, but I’ve searched around for hours and looked through the FAQ and haven’t seen anything.

Is there a way to export/back up my Plex library into the movie folders? For example, can I export my plex library into into .xml, fanart, and posters for selected movies or TV shows? The plex scanner works great and I’d like to be able to back up all the info into select folders instead of just backing up my appdata folder. The reason for this is I’m planning to eventually buy a mac mini server to run the server on, and I’ve heard of people having problems moving the library info between servers and hard drives.

Here is how I’m set up now:

Movie (Year) *folder

Movie (Year).mp4

I’d like to back up all my info into

Movie (Year) *folder

Movie (Year).mp4

Movie (Year)-fanart.jpg

Movie (Year).xml

Movie (Year).jpg

Thank you in advance for the help.

It's a year ago and still no answer. I was looking for the same thing.

+1 I really like the Plex media mnagement interface, but would like to keep the metadata/fanart backed up in an XBMC/other player compatible format just in case.

+1.

I searched for this information on the Internet, but nothing found...

XBMC has this option, but the most important is that when you export these info for every movie, it is much easier to find and match metadata in new Plex database (e.g. after new installation, or migration to new server).

I think it is "must-have" feature.

I would like this feature too.

It's a solution for synchronise many servers with the same files.

Reason for no feedback could be, that this is a developer forum, where people can ask questions about code, and not RFE's nor How-To  ;)

A Q like this belongs to the general forum

Ninja's: Time to lock this?

Yes there is.... code it yourself...

If you have no will in coding to give back to the community, then the Developper forum is maybe not the best forum to ask.

I am the developer for HAMA, the AniDB Metadata agent, and HAMA source code can show how to write in the data folder:

. the Agent Data Folder is the only folder the metadata agent has a right to write to

. It cannot create folders there by itself they must be created by hand

You can

. Modify the metadata agent to save the cache locally with a title

. write a script to move the files into the right folder using the file title

"I've heard of people having problems moving the library info between servers and hard drives." => recreate the metadata then ??????

Hama store locally posters from thetvdb as permanent local cache, so the code should be handy if you are willing to code.

XBMC can export detected metadata so you might want to take down that route

Hi all.

Whit external software Movie Renamer.

very interesting thread, i think this feature would be very useful for those who want to use local art and episodes info, like myself :)
