OK, I know about the way of backing-up all you libraries by coping the folder (e.g. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\ in the case of Windows) plus registry key.
But what If I only want to backup the metadata of a PARTICULAR library only. Scenarios could be that someone has some library on a removeable disk, or that some libraries have lot of manual editing (e.g. adding covers manually), so I would like to have the metadata of only this library backed up.
A good way to circumvent this obstacle is to keep the poster with the movie/show.
In the event you have to rebuild the library you can simple add the movie path back into plex and plex will use your picture artwork.
But I have deleted the poster files already. Is there an easy way to export them? Also in case I had them, what would be the required name of the images? Or will it ready any image in the same folder as the movie?
But it’s not just about the posters; there is also manual renaming due to incorrect matches.
I believe Plex should provide a convenient way to back up individual library. It seems pretty straight-forward logic to me and the function is easy to develop in couple of hours.
No, it’s not bad naming. These are just Arabic movies and many of them are not listed in IMDB or Rotten Tomato etc.
I have over 400 English movies and don’t have this problem (well, except that in a few movies, PMS matched the movie right, pulled metadata and posters etc but came up with a funny movie name (looks like a file name, but not my file name if you no what I mean)., but that’s a differnet issue.
to answer your original question, no there is no way to backup an individual plex library section (they are all part of a single main plex db).
as far as your metadata, you can use local metadata files and configure the library scanners to utilize the local metadata first or only.
for your media that is not conducive to imdb/moviedb/tvdb/etc, you will want to create a separate ‘other videos’ library and use the personal media scanner (not the other moviedb/tvdb scanners).
