External HDD Storage Recommendation?

Hi all. Moving from my old 2012 MacBook Pro to a new 2018 Mac Mini. Looking to move my movies and TV shows from the internal SSD storage of the MBP to an external storage option with the Mac Mini.

When looking at external storage options, what sort of specs should I be looking for for best Plex performance?

FWIW, I only use Plex locally - Mac lives downstairs in my office, TV is upstairs in family room. Just want a smooth experience with little to no buffering.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I was a Drobo user for just about a decade – all the way back to Gen One. I have a weird tale. I had been using Twonky on my Mac Mini with video content stored on the Drobo. Twonky would not seem to register wake-on-LAN, so I would frequently have to wake up the Mac Mini for VLC to see the server from Apple tvOS. All of this was running on DLNA. Inside the Oyen Digital Mobius, I am using Western Digital Blue Drives. Mine are 6.5 TB. I use SoftRAID to manage the RAID5. In my other post, I said it wasn’t as fast. I’m not sure that is true. It has worked great. My challenge is 4K movies and my older CPU in my older Mac mini.
