External Music Player for synced content

I would love the ability to use my choice of external music players for synced music, much like what can be done already with video content. PowerAmp is currently my favorite music player. It does have the ability to select any folder with music in it, but currently Plex strips away all identifying features (file name, folder, meta data). It seems that simply preserving the file structure would be enough to make this possible, though frees choice of sync’d file location would be ideal.

I’m voting for this because it drives me nuts as well. I hate that the media is stored in an obfuscated form instead of easily identifiable files in the normal locations on a device.

But I suspect there are DRM/legal reasons this isn’t already possible. Plex has to avoid becoming a means of illegally copying media or they will start getting (more) attention from the legal entities that like to trash media streaming services and systems.

I’d appreciate a comment from the Plex team on this.

Would like to see this, but undoubtedly reasons why it isn’t possible.

If it’s confined to a user syncing their own files from their own server I don’t see any issues. Which, I believe, is what we’re all looking for.

I’m all in favour of this… I know it can be done on my Android phone after rooting it but that’s not a path I want to go down just to play music…

Your phone would not need to be rooted to download music. Only to save it to the SD card, and that’s only on specific versions of Android.

I support request but would also like external player option for movies
