Hi, I have a plex pass, and I have my plex server installed on a NAS, I cant read/transcode from the NAS, so I used to play video through the MXplayer on my Android Box, and VLC on my PC, but I can’t find this option anymore in any client and neither on the server. Could you please tell me how to activate this option, because actually I have to use Plex through Kodi to watch my video.
thanks
Franck
This option is only available in the Android mobile app. It was available on Android boxes years ago but hasn’t had that for a long time now. It has never been possible to user an external player on a PC so I have no idea how you achieved this before.
I didn’t use it before on PC, I supposed it was possible through VLC, but I have always used it on my Android Box. Actually Plex is not usable for me with my NAS, I just want it to be a multimedia storage not the player. If I can’t use an external player anymore, then I don’t need a plex pass anymore. I will go to the Kodi way, even if I prefer Plex user interface.
Having a Plex Pass has no impact on this. The option to use an external player was removed from the TV interface a long time ago. So either you were running a really old version of the app and never updated or you were running the app in mobile mode. The option is still there for mobile.
Thank you for your answer. I sometimes really don’t understand Plex Company strategy. A long time ago, my NAS could transcode without any problem ( version below 0.9 ), now he can’t, and I can’t use an external player neither. As I said earlier, plex has no more utility for me.
If your nas could transfer before, then it should still be able to now. There maybe some other issue going on. Can you reproduce the issue then provide me the log from PMS?
