I’ve recently noticed that Plex isn’t picking up any of my external forced subs. I have a number of forced subs for foreign parts just in the same movie folder with the following name format… ‘MovieName.en.forced.srt’. These used to work no problem but now don’t. The only solution I’ve found is to either group the movie and sub file into their own folder or ReMux the sub into the MKV file, both of which I’d like to avoid.
Any ideas?

Plex naming convention states to do precisely what you say. It has always been this way. The reason for it is because matching SRT or Local Media Assets with movie becomes increasingly complex when all files are lumped into a single ‘movies’ directory without any structure. Local assets (deleted scenes, etc) cannot be properly matched at all without some 'parent directory.
In your “Movies” directory, create a directory for the movie and put the SRT + other local extras there.
As example:

It could be as simple as a deactivated ‘Local Media Assets’ (LMA) agent.
It needs to be activated if you want to use any type of “sidecar” files or embedded data.
If you have deactivated it because of interference of embedde metadata with the ‘matching’ process, there is a solution:
Activate LMA, but move it downwards in the list of agents, under all of these
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Personal Media
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - Personal Media Shows
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
This list may be even longer if you have installed any 3rd party agents.
Nope, not deactivated LMA. Like I said it works perfectly if I put them in their own folder. It would appear that is the only solution. I’ve found the section in the naming convention docs that ChuckPa refers to, so it looks like that’s what I’m gonna do. I could’ve sworn they worked before though.
If you have a lot of movies to move around, a tool such as FileBot helps with that in short order.
The template for my movies is /syno/movies/{n} ({y})/{n} ({y}) This performs any name cleanup and the move simultaneously (after verification from you). once complete, you can move the extras into where they belong. FileBot will grab the obvious files for you as well (SRT, etc)
Thanks, I’ll check FileBot out. Although I’ve already managed to get all 1000+ movies into their own folders by using a neat little utility called file2folder. Will FileBot be able to automatically download Forced English SRT files for films that need them?
I found it a great tool when i had to fix all my TV series (7000+ episodes covering 130+ series)

I don’t know one website which offers ‘forced’ subtitles more than occasionally.
And I don’t know a single software tool which is able to automatically download only forced subtitles.
