Foreign part subs &/or .srt files

I am really sorry if this has been asked/answered somewhere else but I have searched and find nothing that answers what I need to know. Also sorry for this having a sub question included instead of making a second post.

Movies like Hunt For Red October have subs for the Russian speaking parts of the movie. When I watch my movie on WIN Media player or VLC it works perfectly. I have the .srt file. It will NOT work in PLEX no matter what I try.

File IS named correctly (not my first rodeo.)
Put the .srt file in the same folder as the movie. (Why doesn’t PLEX have a folder JUST for srt file…that would be a HUGE housekeeping help!!!)
Have “Shown With Foreign Audio” turn ON in prefs.
Movies > Plex Movies > OpenSubtitles.org is on and at the top and my login info is there.

I don’t get any subs LOCALLY or remote. I remember about a year or so ago I DID have an option to turn on or off subtitles on movies with them…now that option doesn’t exist when a movie is playing.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have friends that use my server and have told me of quite a few movies with (usually) Russian speaking parts that I have subtitles for (again, they work perfectly locally via WMP and VLC) are not showing the subs… I check them out and sure enough…none work.

As for server version, just updated last night so: Version 1.7.5.4035

Thank you in advance…

  1. Is the SRT in the folder with the movie?
  2. Is the Local Media Assets agent enabled for your movies on all parts?
  3. To confirm naming, just to be certain, as example: Movie (year).eng.forced.srt will show the English subtitles for foreign language parts.

With LMA enabled, Update the Library. The local subtitle file will be found if named in accordance with the Plex spec. See my signature for details

  1. as stated, yes
  2. yes it is (always has been) forgot to mention this.
  3. I have tried using the exact same name as the movie file. Tried adding .eng to it. Tried adding eng.forced to it.
  4. have refreshed, rebuilt, etc…still doesn’t work.

By the way, my movies are all named via filebot, Here is the Movie title and srt file name for HFRO

The Hunt for Red October [1990, PG, 135 Min] (Alec Baldwin, Sean Connery, Scott Glenn) (Action, Adventure, Thriller).mp4
The Hunt for Red October [1990, PG, 135 Min] (Alec Baldwin, Sean Connery, Scott Glenn) (Action, Adventure, Thriller)eng.forced.srt

Just noticed…my SRT file was missing the . after ) I just added it, and it is working now… Interesting…because 3 other files were named correctly but also didn’t work. But now they are working, too. Hmmmm…

Well, all happy now!
