Extras missing from movies with Editions

Reiterating the bug from thread “Local Extras Missing for Movies with Multiple Editions.” I concur it is unreasonable to support two format types for extras, -extentions and folders, but only support one extras format for movies with multiple editions. (If, indeed, that is the case as I have not tested this as, like @triplite, I am not interested in breaking the supported format I am already using.)

I also find the simple answer that “Plex does not support shared extras” dismissive of this as an actual problem.

So, here I am 18 months later, requesting a fix, even if the extras exist under only one of the editions and are not shared between them all.

The only „restriction“ that I’m aware of is that different editions should have their own top-level folders if you’re adding local extras to them (and not multiple edition files mixed in the same top-level folder).

That’s how the handling of different editions is documented and working. Nothing dismissive about stating that.

There’s a feature suggestion asking for an option to support adding files of different editions into the same folder and let them share any local media assets (posters, themes, backgrounds…) and extras.

Beyond that… I’m not sure if this is what you’re talking about as you refer to a bug reported 18 months ago without any links/references, while pointing out you’re not sure that’s actually the case because you never tested it (unless I’m misreading your post)

The link to the topic disappeared after I posted; my apologies.

No, you read that correctly, I did not test the proposed “solution” as I was not interested in introducing a new structure into my library. I did, however, move the edition of one of the suspect movies into its own parent folder, and the extras showed up in the other edition. It works, and while not ideal (I would prefer to keep things all together,) it is acceptable as one could consider it hierarchical in the sense of a standard edition with the extras, then alternate editions as children to the standard edition.

I do appreciate your more complete answer to my post here. Thank you.

One could, but that’s not how editions in Plex work.

And one will, since it is the easiest way, IMNSHO, for one to consider how this function currently functions.

So previously having a single top level folder, multiple editions in that folder and a Featurettes folder showed the extras on the movie without an edition label in the filename. At some point recently this must have broken which is how I found this thread.

So are you’re saying this should have never worked and the correct way all along was to have a folder for every edition if you want Featurettes to show up at all?

That’s how it’s described in Plex‘s Support article on Editions — and supposedly (and based on what I’ve found in the forums), it’s been like this from the beginning.

It seems crazy this has been working for so long incorrectly. Also the way the support article is written isn’t clear that it’s referring to the previous “folder” method and could use an example. Just saying “the folder method” to me means you either you have all your movie files under a folder called movies or you have the folder method, one folder per movie. Which has been the either / or scheme since forever.
