Considering all the above clients show the problem, I’m assuming it must be a server issue.
Does anyone else have an issue with the movie extras not showing up when there are multiple editions of the movie? I store all my editions in the same folder if that makes a difference.
It doesn’t seem to be the presence of the tag itself because I have a couple movies that have an edition tag, with no alternate editions available and the extras are showing for those entries.
That’s what’s causing this issue for you. Move the different editions to their own folders and keep the extras with one of them… then they should be showing with that edition.
Yes, trailers and extras are supported, but you need to organize editions using the “folder” method. See our articles about naming as well as using local trailers and extras for more information.
Seems like an officially acknowledged bug that needs fixing. If the extras apply to all editions, it is kind of silly to need to duplicate them all multiple times or force someone to hunt down which edition includes the extras.
Besides that, I’m still hoping they’ll find a way to collapse all the editions under a single library item with a selector inside the movie’s main page.
I would argue it might have been a poor design choice. But that appears to be two sides of the same argument
I guess that depends… I’ve got extras which apply to a specific edition and some which are rather generic. So I do see the use case while acknowledging it’s a bit more complex.
Absolutely no argument here… I really liked your mock-ups and hope they still look into a better visualization for alternative editions.
For now I’ve simply put every „non-default edition“ in an Alternative Cuts collection, hiding its content from the main library view. That’s been working ok while I keep the library sorted by title. At some point I’ve manually set the release dates of various editions, but that turned out to be rather confusing e.g. finding an alternative edition decades after when you know the original release happened…
Yep, and I’m not arguing that the separate folder concept should be discarded. I can see the use for having separate media folders for different editions, but it should be able to work both ways.
Separate folders should probably trigger separate library items, and a combined folder should group those editions under a single page with edition picker up high near the play button where it is immediately visible that multiple editions exist.
