Bug: Movie extras don't work when multiple editions of movie exist

After determining that I was not going crazy, after navigating the wild inconsistencies in which extras as treated between Movies and Series and between the website and the various apps, I noticed what appears to be a long standing bug: extras are completely ignored when multiple editions of a movie exist

Confirmed by:
August 2022: Multiple Editions - Feedback & Suggestions // mod: shared extras for editions in same folder
July 2023: Bug: Local Extras Missing for Movies with Multiple Editions
Aug 2024: Cannot get extras/featurettes to work with multiple versions/editions of a film

And of course, on a related but separate note, edition support should exist for TV Series:

And when it does become supported, please don’t apply the same Extras bug as above.

Not looking for workarounds…looking for a bug-fix, please.

As per your other thread.
According to how editions work, each edition is supposed to be organized in its own movie folder. If you follow that approach, you’ll also get to see the related local extras.
Plex doesn’t currently support “sharing” local extras across multiple editions by placing them all in the same folder.

Example 1: This is how it’ll work

Movies
  The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) {edition-Theatrical Cut}
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) {edition-Theatrical Cut}.mkv
    Featurettes
      ...
  The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) {edition-Special Extended Edition}
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) {edition-Special Extended Edition}.mkv
    Featurettes
      ...
    Behind the Scenes
      ...

This will show each edition with their own local extras.

Example 2: This doesn’t work

Movies
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) {edition-Theatrical Cut}.mkv
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) {edition-Special Extended Edition}.mkv
    Featurettes
      ...
    Behind the Scenes
      ...

Plex might pick up the two editions but none of the local extras!

There’s a feature suggestion discussing for Plex to support the 2nd schema as well with both editions displaying the same set of local extras contained in their mutual top-level folder.

Yeh, Tom80H resolved the same issue for me in the topic linked from Aug (thanks Tom).

So for the moment at least, just put each edition in its own unique folder and live with the featurettes in just one of them.

Imagine there’s loads of suggestions to get arround this. eg: A dedicated folder in a film folder called “Editions” or something where your two or more alternative cuts/editions can then be put, with a shared featurette folder in the parent one. Probably far better solutions to be had.

If this is the design intent, then edition tags shouldn’t be supported in filenames, only in folder names. Because edition tags are supported in filenames and extras detection doesn’t work when that occurs, the feature is either incomplete or has an oversight bug.

Despite these frustrations, I am literally moving mountains to make my media library Plexable. It’s going to take me years to cut up all the ISO files into pieces Plex can understand. Couple that with backup synchronization - I can only justify moving one set of mountains once (barely). The thought of re-work at this stage is crazy. I have to proceed forward organizing content logically on the assumption that the edition feature will be completed at some point. That Music Libraries desperately need first-time edition support and TV Series needs expanded edition support, it brings me hope that the edition feature will get attention sooner than later.
