Extremely low analog audio

Hi guys-

New to Rasplex. Running 1.6.2 on a Raspberry Pi 3. So far, everything is great, with one exception - I run audio out of the 3.5mm jack, and it’s extremely low when watching movies - like almost unusably low.

I’ve added the lines:

<headroom>24</headroom>
<ac3downmixgain>24.0</ac3downmixgain>

to advancedsettings.xml

as I’ve read in various other sources around the web, but that had no effect.

Anything else I might try?

Thanks, ahead of time, for any help y’all might offer.

Not too sure if you’re going to be able to make much headway with the analog out- I had the same problem…

I was able to circumvent it by piping the HDMI audio through an optical audio out (on my TV), through an optical->RCA converter, to my analog only amp… but that was specifically for my use case and may not be helpful to you (outside of giving you an outside the box option).

Not sure if HiFIBerry is supported? You might want to do a search here on the forums to see if that could be an option as well.

Hopefully you’re able to make some progress, I know I was certainly annoyed by it!

HiFIBerry is supported in the latest versions.

Thanks for the hardware recommendations, guys. Great ideas.

Is there anyone out there at all that has got analog audio to work correctly, at usable levels, without purchasing add-on hardware? Still crossing fingers for a software solution, but it sounds like more hardware may be my only hope. Pity - I had high hopes that Rasplex would be the self-contained, elegant low-cost solution I’ve been looking for.

What are you running the 3.5mm jack to?

Have tried several variations of powered speakers - Pioneer A4 XW‑SMA4‑K, some Dell powered speakers with subwoofer, Vizio soundbar. All of them exhibit the same problem - just not enough level. Interestingly, the system sounds (remote beeps, etc.) are fairly loud compared to movie content.
