Extremely poor general performance on unraid

It’s taking forever for my media library to load when opening plex on a Roku ultra 2022 or apple tv 4k 2021.

Everything is 1Gb lan hardline. I avoid wireless as much as possible.

My server specs are: Ryzen 9 3900x - 4x 32Gb 2666MHz unbuffered Crucial - the database runs on a WD Black SN850 500GB NVMe WDS500G1X0E.

My transcoding is done on an Nvidia 1660.

I’m going to switch it off the WD to two TEAM MP34 1TB drives in a Stripe, but the parts don’t arrive until Saturday.

So some reason when I open plex on the Roku the libraries take forever to load, if they load at all. Sometimes Plex tells me that it was unable to connect and I have to try multiple times.

I’m also having playback issues where sometimes I get stuttering on direct play.

I’m run tests and checked SMART stats and I have no hardware faults that I can find.

My Plex DB is 113MB in size, so I am unable to load it here.

As a comparative, I loaded and setup Jellyfin and it is not having any of the performance issues that I am having with Plex.

For anyone reading this: I was using the unraid container by hotio, as soon as I switched to binhex, the performance improved to only a minor delay.

I’ve installed a second nvme disk and have configured them in a stripe. At this point, the database is only bottlenecked by the CPU. I used two TEAM p34 nvme drives, for the price point they have the best possible TBW (2TB) and a pretty high performance point.

This has become my go-to nvme drive in multiple systems.
