Fake reviews on Play Store by Plex staff

Agreed. It’s time to see some accountability.

If he disclosed that he worked for Plex I’d be suspicious but the fact that he didn’t makes me pretty certain we’re being gaslighted.

this is kind of pathetic tbh, I just went and changed my 5 star review from 2013 to a 1 star.

@elan Wow… Really deleted my post just for suggesting you get a new job? Impressive. You guys sure know how to make yourselves look completely pathetic.

Guys,

I really don’t have a history of praising everything coming from Plex.
But are you sure, you want to write posts getting personal about @elan or anybody else?

There’s much that can be rightfully critisized about actions or products. But there’s a line in the sand. Please respect this line even if you are frustrated or don’t like the action of others.

There’s no sense in trying to start a vendetta about this.

Plex went over that line in the sand when their employees started posting fake reviews.

It would be best for plex to accept that this went really poorly - the new app was not ready (not just because of so many features being stripped out, but also because so much of it is broken for many users).

I assume this was done to align development for the paywall / pricing changes - but that was such a bad priority as you now have alienated so many of the user base first by substantially increasing prices and second by releasing really bad software.

I paid for plex pass awhile ago and if plex said “hey were working to continue to update the product and make sure its got the features you want and love, but we are going to have to put new releases as part of an annual subscription for existing lifetime users” — i would have continued to support the service myself. I often freely give money over to apps i love to use in order to support their continued development and support.

Now I am sitting here debating using an inferior service like Emby / jellyfin because the plex service just doesn’t do what i need it to anymore. I am happy to hand over the same amount i gave to plex - to emby - just because i need a product that works.

There’s a difference between discussing things somebody at Plex did that are not liked by social platforms and their users, or accusing the co-founder of any knowledge or toleration of that. Too many missing infos to do that.

I was talking about that line in the sand. It’s not too hard to understand.

I’m really surprised so many people spend so much time trolling this. I’ve seen various “anti Plex pro Jellyfin” posts on Reddit in the last year or two so I knew something was afoot. Agreed some of the direction isn’t what many of us would want but I’ve used Jellyfin and I’m not willing to give up some usability.

So I’d just say if your done with Plex be done with it.

As to the founders and co-founders on here. I always wondered how the plex pass lifetime would be a tenable option. Want my money? Here’swhat I’d like out of plex, and I bet others would too:

Work a deal with Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Disney and most of the other main players so that you can integrate their content for their existing subscribers (meaning those who have the Disney service can stream Disney stuff from within Plex). Yes I want to go to ONE APP to go to “continue watching” and see all my shows there. Make it so plex is the hub. And don’t forsake those of us who still like to rip our own media. I’d just like one app to rule them all with a consistent UI and not have to remember that this show is on that app etc.

Last week I heard that Plex employees were out of the office. How odd with all the issues with the new app and we didn’t get an update during the week at all, either. Perhaps they were celebrating their successes  or on some vacation compound writing flowery reviews.

Testflight releases have appeared for 2025.16.0 for iOS and TvOS today, so I would say there has been some work done.

No, I didn’t, and don’t appreciate the accusation, but I also took your suggestion a few years ago, I just work on the music side of Plex these days and don’t have involvement elsewhere.

This thread is a good candidate for closing because it’s pure raging without anything constructive.

I respect that, at the end of the day, people should use what works best for them.

Yes, exactly this.

Trust me, we’ve discussed this for years, the primary issue is that none of the services want to be stuffed inside a box with other services, hence why not even Apple has been able to pull it off.

Don’t be a dick. We’re a fully remote company and have been since inception. As such we schedule off-sites during the year where the employees can get together. These are scheduled and planned months in advance.

Any more personal attacks or conspiracy theories, and I’ll start banning people and close this thread.

Sadly this thread is no longer following our guidelines for the forums https://forums.plex.tv/guidelines

While we welcome discussions, concerns and suggestions on how we can do better, we do not welcome posts that only:

  • Do not add nor provide feedback we might consider, but are posting only negative things
  • Call out individuals by name, both forum users as well as employees

This thread has had a lot of good posts, and we would like to say thanks for that, and something we will take back internally
Sadly though, this thread also had a huge portion of posts that did not respect our forum guidelines, and this is sadly getting out of hand, and no longer considered a constructive thread

As such, we have closed this thread
