I’ve had no experience with ATV in the past. I picked up the 3 yesterday to check out Plexconnect. I had it up and ruining in a few minutes. Been using Plex for over a year now on many clients and devices. The latest, the Pi. Too slow.
The best thing about Plex is the beauty of the UI with fanart and all. I checked the road map but no mention of somehow incorporating fanart. Can it be done?
What about skin options in the future?
That would bring ATV to a crawl (very much like your Rpi experience) if technically possible at all.
Nothing is planned around it, you have to bear in mind that we are limited by:
- what the ATV is capable of (we fit into its schema as we do not create any native code on the device)
- the storage on the device (we have the ATV cache artwork etc so that when you go back to a section it is much quicker - fanart can be quite a storage drain on a large library)
Maybe this will change but at the moment i would not count on it, although the UI will be getting much slicker move along e.g. Elan's proposed changes:

I took the ATV3 back to the store for a refund. Without the prospect of fanart it won't do at this point. Installed the refocus skin on the Rasberry Pi tonight. Much nicer experience but the Rasplex could use some work on it's sluggishness. Near as I can tell Rasplex is the closest to the real deal client wise.
It is, and there will be a new release today I heard :P
