I use Plex as a DVR. Why is it so difficult to modify DVR recording settings on Plex?
Example: If I want to modify an existing DVR series recording to occur on only one channel I have to do the following:
- I have to navigate to LiveTV&DVR → DVR Schedule → Recording Priority
- then scroll through a random list of hundreds of recordings to find the one I want to modify. I can’t sort through this list by name, it’s based on when the recording was added
- after finding the series recording name I can click on it and select Show Advanced
On the AppleTV app it is nearly impossible to find and modify a scheduled recording because I have hundreds of series in my Recording Priority list.
Why can’t I simply select any recording, choose the 3 dots then “More” and have the option of modifying recording settings right there?
Every PVR/DVR I’ve used in the past including WMC and TiVo make it easy to do this. Plex seems to be geared towards only playing music (why on earth would I want to have a “shuffle” option playing back videos of a series recording?) and Plex doesn’t allow me to change recording settings from the actual recording. This doesn’t make sense to me when trying to use Plex as a DVR.
Why does this matter?
It shouldn’t be difficult to manage series recording settings.
When is it a problem?
a.If I have a series I want to cancel all future recordings for
b.If I have a series I want to only record new episodes for
c.I have a single recording of a new show I like and I want to record this show as a series
d.I want to stop a series from recording the same episode on multiple channels simultaneously i.e. I only have 4 tuners on my DVR and I don’t need all 4 tuners occupied recording the same show
