Time overlap is not always good enough and old VCRs used to support PDC for triggering the start and end of a recording. Ref: ETS 300 231 (ETSI EN 300 231), published by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
It would be great if Plex could replicate this feature, with timer as a backup, which is currently available in the UK as Accurate Recording (AR) on Freeview+
