Feature request: Add local authentication server functionality

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368

When the Plex authentication server goes down for whatever reason, it literally makes our servers useless and non-functional - which can create unnecessary downtime for our servers and frustration (like today having it go down for over an hour).

Is it not possible to implement the database for authentication (or whatever process authentication undergoes) directly into our servers to eliminate this sort of downtime?

Literally the only downside with Plex for me is that it requires an internet connection to authenticate with your servers. The fact that I can’t even adjust server-side settings because I can’t authenticate with the ā€œmother shipā€ is kinda silly… Server-side settings aren’t even available to me unless I can authenticate to you.

I agree that having local access to my plex server & media would be a great feature addition. We have lost internet access previously and effectively have no access to our local server & media. I would enjoy a ā€˜local mode’ option that would allow devices on the same subnet to connect & stream normally regardless of WAN status & https authentication servers.

Just over a week later, another authentication server outage…

Just waking here.

Is it still out? If so, where please?

I’m looking at one part which states it is operational.

Just go to https://status.plex.tv and it’ll tell you the operational status of each part of Plex’s infrastructure.

Today it wasn’t down for very long, but still.

To share a bit of something we’re working on…
Please don’t get me in any trouble over this?

We are working through ways of making this whole scenario better.
Everything is on the table and being discussed.

When we finish our work, we will take it to the product team and work through it with them.

Sorry, I’m realizing now that I didn’t read your first response correctly at all.

I’m happy to hear that solutions are at least being thought of and that it’s something you guys are thinking about.

Your secret is safe with me, and anyone who reads this thread lol.

Thank you again for the response

UPDATE

Sadly 4 years has passed and there’s no signs of any movement on this
