[Feature Request] Allow truncating DVR recordings

Usually a recording contains parts at the start and end that are not the show you want to watch. Some other show and commercials.

I would really like a way of clipping, or truncating a recording to lose the boring bits, which often are considerably long. In my case easily 30 minutes per recording, which often does not last much longer than that…

So that is my core feature request; please allow users to truncate a recorded video from the interface.
Ideally also from the Apps if that ever gets DVR support, because we almost never use the webinterface.

And building upon that, i suggest allowing dividing a recording in chapters …and truncating said chapters. This would allow me to cut-out the breaks and breaking-news afterwards - which i very likely did not intended to record in the first place.

If you agree with this feature request, please remember to give the top post (this one) a thumbs up!

I REALLY would like this feature as well. It would also allow us to save a ton of storage space too.

Bumping this feature request now that DVR is out of BETA for a while.

Sounds like a great use of the Post Processing option. I’ve seen threads that discuss both comskip and comcut.

Good news everyone!
I found the latest Plex server (1.11.0.4633) has a new DVR setting;

:ballot_box_with_check: Remove commercials
Attempt to automatically detect and remove commercials from recordings. This process may take a long time and cause high CPU usage. Portions of your recordings detected as commercials will be completely removed from your video files.

(have not tried it yet)
