I use Plex for 4 different things:
- Anime
- Courses
- Movies
- Series
I really like the Poster view, it’s very useful and beautiful for everything, but courses. I have some private courses in video from my company and others that I downloaded from the web (legally, of course) and they don’t have posters, so when I’m inside a course folder I see a bunch of big posters with a screenshot of some random part of the video, this is ugly and not useful at all. I’d rather have them displayed as list, because some names are long and the Poster view isn’t appropriated for that. The problem is that if I set Poster view inside the Courses library it automatically sets it for all libraries, something I don’t want.
In short, allow the user to set different views for each library.

To aid with your course videos and their lack of posters, you can add your own posters and plex will display them for you.
Simply create a jpeg image with the dimensions of 400x600 pixels or any multiple of those numbers, EG: 800x1200 pixels and then name the image exactly the same as your video file except for the .ext.
EG:
My workout video - 01.mp4
My workout video - 01.jpg
You will also need to enable the Local Media Assets agent and sort it to the top of the list in Plex settings->server->agents.
Once you have added your own posters, update and/or refresh your library and Plex should display your new posters.
For more information regarding adding posters, background images etc. see the link in my signature regarding File Naming in Plex and then go to the Movie or TV Show local assets links.
That should brighten things up a bit for you.
Thanks, I do know about manual poster, but it doesn’t really fit in my case. I don’t care about posters for courses, after all, I have tons of them and manually setting them up would be a waste of time. Showing them as list would be the best way, sadly.
Plex remembers the view setting you leave your library in. Unfortunately, this is only remembered per library type, rather than by individual library. That means that you can have all your music libraries in Poster view, and all your video libraries in List view, but you can’t have one video library in List, and another video library in Poster view.
Would that be possible to have a different view for Movies and Videos?
Music, TV Shows and other library types stick to their individual view types, but those two seem to be linked. Whenever I change the view for Videos, Movies view adjust to the same type, and I want them to be different…
