[Feature Request] Are you still watching?

Possible to have an “Are you still watching?” prompt to friends? It would be ideal to have this as a toggle for each friend. Since we don’t host plex with the data centers that are Netflix and the like, it would be nice as the Plex host to have a prompt to guests to ensure they’re not wasting resources of the host.

I could see this being useful to popup to guests only if the host server is using too many resources, or to have it as an option selectively per-friend. A global option would work too, but I’d worry as the host I’m creating a negative experience for the friends that aren’t putting a show on and falling asleep/doing other things, causing a worse experience for those that are actively trying to watch something.

Plex is in the process of adding “Pass Out Protection” to the clients.

Passout Protection (Plex Pass Required)

By default auto-playing content will not continue to auto-play the next item, if it’s been more than 2 hours since the user last interacted with the app. This is to help prevent content from continually playing if you fall asleep. Choices are:

  • Never Prompt (Disable Passout Protection)
  • After 1 hour
  • After 2 hours (Default)
  • After 3 hours

IIRC this passout protection has always been there, right?

With Player Experience settings its now possible to disable that setting.

Here’s the post with Player Experience additions: Player Experience

Pass Out Protection is new.

There has always been a server setting to stop paused streams after a specific amount of time.
Settings → Network → Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than

That’s exciting to hear, thank you for sharing! Odd that this is a client-side feature but not a server-side one since that means the host can’t force passout protection on clients to prevent overusing server resources to a sleeping audience.

Not really. Plex always used to stop autoplay after 2 hours.
There was/is a feature request to disable that feature.

So now they added the toggle to configure the autoplay timeout.

Guess I never ran across that. Thanks for the info.
