Feature Request: Backing up metadata

I'm new to Plex and really love it!  You guys have done an excellent job.

Most of the movies and tvs show I have entered and the data was found without a hitch.

I do dislike the huge number of genres which are imported and I have customized them to my liking.  I also find I am having a huge number of tv episodes (Looney Tunes) that I am going to have to customize the episode name and info.

I don't mind doing this but I very much dislike the idea of having to redo all of that if for some reason have a problem and have to start over I would sure like to have my personal metadata changes backed up.  From what I've read on these forums that is not available so I would like to request it.

TY!

Linda

I would like to second this request as I personally find that the Posters and Fanartare frequently lost or go blank and I constantly have to refresh individual movies or tv shows which remains extremely cumbersome and annoying when you have a large library like I do.

I use the Night Skin for Plex on a Mac

Some sort of built in backup/restore option would be great, especially for those who spend a lot of time tweaking/customizing the downloaded matches and meta data.  That way in case the host system ever had to be rebuilt (hardware failure, OS reinstall, etc) it would be quick to reimport and recover PMS.

I agree, a backup would be useful. I built my first server on a windows box, then migrated to linux, and had to redo all the changes I made. Are the data structures identical cross platform? It would be nice to be able to load both a windows server and linux server with identical data and compare the performance.

Isn't there a tool/script/whatever out there to dump Plex metadata into the actual movie files? I think I read about it...

Would that help? Would Plex grab the movie-metadata and keep them, unless otherwise ordered to do a web search?
