There isn’t one.
I wouldn’t keep your hopes up. They stated several times that there is no going back. Even after all the Roku uproar they have only made the old version available temporary.
Best you can hope for at this point: Plex finally got the message that the new version just doesn’t work as is, and that they will update all platforms once they figure out a UI that is pleasing to most…
At least the Roku users got an official rollback even if it’s temporary. We had to hack our way back to the old version when this useless UI showed up.
I’m realistic about this situation as well. I had a small glimmer of hope with the creation of this thread by a Plex employee there would be some positive changes.
While I’m happy to see at least one user base is getting some attention and actual communication about their grievances, we on the other hand have received none of this. This thread was the only positive step towards actual customer relations but it’s gone dead with no official Plex feedback thus far.
Just to clarify my “There isn’t one” comment.
That’s on a general basis not just your request.
10000 votes won’t necessarily make a feature request a feature.
Something never requested doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen.
Weil, Plex, iTunes isn’t really hard to geh an extra option where you can choose to see only a classic structure server -> library.
I don’t mind two extra clicks as long as jumping back and forth then keeps me where I was. without unnecessary further clicks.
It is just mad to have the kids being introduced to porn, show the anime collection to grand-ma, bother the wife with Sports movies or show me the Disney top 100.
We simple don’t want it. We can live with new things, but you are messing with the general structure of what we do want and do like.
If my TV would force me to have the kiss channels alongside my preferred TV channels, mixing everything according to “you see what is there” without me being able to properly configure that… the TV would be replaced within a week.
And what I don’t like at all: if someone tells me that I will like it once I got used to it… Sorry. You don’t know letter than I do about my personal taste and habits.
I switched over to Emby and I’m much, much happier with it.
It starts playback faster than Plex ever did. You can manage your server from pretty much any client; I use the Android (phone), Fire OS (Fire HD 10), and Roku clients and they all let me manage my servers just like if I was using the web client. It doesn’t track your information in other to send it back to the mothership, and all authentication is local to your server (although there is also a cloud authentication option if you want it).
Whatever UI tweaks they make to the Roku client they will eventually make to the rest of them. I wouldn’t get my hopes up though. They’ll more than likely make some changes so that it appears like you got your servers and libraries back. They’ll also throw us a bone like the traditional TV grid guide that they should have provided ages ago.
However, some things are set in stone and they just will not be coming back no matter what, for example Plugins. So if this is one of the things you want back it is just “not happening” (to quote a plex employee)
It would still be similar as you just list all the surveys in order from most voted to least and always work your way down the list. This would be more accurate in gauging what user’s requests are versus I voted 5 times to fix something so now I can’t vouch for new features.
I really do think we should still be fighting for this change!
They are supposed to eventually roll out the UNO interface to all platforms, including Android.
They just released it as a kind of Beta on the Roku.
Setting aside whether UNO is better or worse,
rhe issue is how long it will take to make its way to Android.
Sorry, I need some clarification.
My mobile app has felt like crap to use for a while about an year… I believed that that change was also a part already a part of UNO?
Uno basically fixed all the issues that came with the “type first” disaster. I rolled back to the last good Android version and turned updates off, but I’ll be turning them back on with UNO. It’s fine.
I had it rolled back also, but thru a rather annoying thing necessary setting on my phone that I can not say hear in public, it will update all apps within a certain time. Not something fixable.
My main problem with the (android-mobile) User interface is having to be offline to access my local data.
Are they fixing that?
@DirtyBanks is correct in that you are using version 7.X of Plex on your Android device. It came out about a year ago and it uses a Type first approach to media access.
The new UNO interface came out just last week and is currently only available as a preview in Roku.
I have just checked this new UI out and the verdict is:
Plex Media Provider, coming soon to a obligatory update near you!
Actions do not lie, this partnership with Tidal and the change to categories oriented UI is not a good sign.
How long before (movie rentals appears in your movies category)
I might be wrong but look at that hurricane…
Oh, I agree with you there 100%.
That too is why I don’t use Plex much anymore (if at all). I hang around the forums just to see the train wreck… or to see Plex prove me wrong.
Yep me too. But some of the nonsense posts make these forums kind of addictive.
Just like my last nicotine fix, I know I shouldn’t. I know I don’t need it and and I know a part of me dies each time.
Yet here I am.
LOL
Too true.
So… It’s August now since the announcement of the UNO UI. Has this effort been abandoned for Android?
So, UNO is available on Android TV, and apparently was just released in beta for iOS… Hopefully that means it’s coming to Android mobile soonish?
