Feature Request: Composer Field

Oh, and as far as Apple having improved Classical support in iTunes, that was in late 2016 - iTunes has been out for how long? Since early 2000’s? I hope we don’t have to wait that long!

the composer tag would be useful for audiobooks, as thats normally the narrator

I would think the composer tag would be for the author, and the artist tag for the narrator.

+1 to add a Composer field. I have got a huge classical music collection, for which I would dearly love to use Plex as a music library, but current constraints makes that not a viable option.

One suggestion would be to have music libraries grouped by a selected field. You could group them by Album Artist, Artist, Genre, or Composer. Sub groupings would also be nice, So Genre by Album Artist.

Filters can do that for you now, but you have to put the composer’s name in the Album Artist field, which is rarely appropriate for classical music (Beethoven isn’t the album artist - it’s usually a soloist, or an orchestra). This is why support for the Composer tag is needed.

@beckfield I agree with your comment for utilizing the Composer tag… as well as with the MANY others thru these MANY years of neglecting this request/issue.

FWIW the tiniest band-aids to apply are these examples:

~ Title of album as “Schumann: Carnaval & Papillions” and so forth. Then you can do search and get a limited sampling of that composer in your library. Not all the albums of that composer though.

~ List the composer in the “artist” field in Big Box compilations and the like (stuff from vanguard & bach guild come to mind). But then you will lose those particular performers when searching.

Too bad I’m just noticing now that there is no composer fiel in Plex, now after I’ve bought the lifetime membership! Come on people, this can’t be possible you still haven’t implemented this feature?!

+1 for the composer tag. Its lack is the reason I’m using Asset for music, Plex for everything else, but I’d far rather throw everything into Plex.

Btw, has anyone from Plex ever responded to this request? There are quite a few threads asking for it.

+1 for composer tag. Come on Plex!

This is the single issue that makes me keep my iTunes library current rather than switching fully over to the Plex lifestyle. It is absurd that this easy request isn’t accepted.

Every track needs a composer field. And this is not just a classical music issue, of course.

DEVELOPERS!!! I LOVE PLEX, but I also can’t believe it has been so many years and the ability to browse by Composers has not yet been implemented. It can’t possibly be that difficult, code-wise, right?

Proper classical music support is important for your business - older people who have the money to spend on fancy tech setups at home with Plex are also much more likely to have a large classical music collection. As it has stood for years, it’s not fun to explore one’s classical library in Plex, and it’s difficult to find what one wants.

We MUST have the ability to browse by Composers, edit the Composer Tag, and an option to make a Plex Mix based on an individual composer would be a very useful cherry on top.

I’m a lifetime member - couple years now. I understand feature requests must be prioritized but I would expect Plex to at least respond to loyal users when they have questions/frustrations. I need to be able to search by composer when I am in a record shop to see if I should buy something or not. I’ve tried a couple solutions - manually renaming the album artist as the composer - and it’s a nightmare. I just tried collections feature (which should be a fine solution too) but I can’t figure out how to search a collection on the iphone or android. So, +1 for a composer field…and all the other people I have turned on to Plex too.

Why is there a TAG for Genre when there is a metadata filed for Genre that could have been scraped? Why is there a Date for movies but not music?
