I started out using Plex on my new NAS, but the lack of composer support means I had to install MinimServer for music. The client doesn’t support photos very well (another perennially ignored topic on these forums), and so now it’s really just movies where Plex can be the end-to-end solution. It’s pretty heavy on resources just for that though…
I can’t stress enough how critical the composer tag is for classical music. If you could finally implement it, this would be incredible!
The composer tag really is essential for classical music. One has to enter two types of artist for classical music: composer and performing artist. This is an obvious, basic requirement for a music library program - please add it!
+1 for the composer tag. This is a must for every classical music fan.
Don’t forget to add your vote. It’s not just for Plex Pass owners anymore!
I agree. I will not buy the plex pass until there is support for the composer tag.
I spent a day-and-a-half trying to figure out/beat Plex’s inconsistent method of interpreting the tags on my classical files. I got around the problem by ignoring miserable Plex’s attempt to classify classical albums and grab my cds by looking at my folder, which are organized by composer/composition. Where there are multiple composers, I simply choose the one I consider primary. I can then create a long, long list of continuous cds to listen to without the hassle of trying to game Plex’s terrible approach (non-approach) to making sense of classical music.
That may be a function of my player. I cast my files to my Denon receiver using their in-house app, Heos. It too is a pain, but once sorted out, seems to be working just fine.
Another vote for the composer field, and a general vote for a more robust music player all around. My goal is to use Plex as my primary music streaming service while I am traveling (which I do ALOT)… implementing the composer field would truly make this possible. Enhancing the overall experience with the music player aspect of the app would make things even better.
I am a plex-pass subscriber!
Thanks!
Add another vote!
+1 for composer tag. It would be great to add more, but that would be a good first start - I think many people who love classical music have carefully curated composer tags in their libraries. Being able to browse by this would be really useful…
none of the +1 or comments in this thread really matter.
the only thing plex (says) it cares about is the votes in a feature request, in the feature request section.
this request probably most corresponds to one of the existing threads @
The +1 and “me too” comments might not matter, but it’s good to see solidarity on the issue. I’ve been asking for and about this for years, so it’s nice to see that I’m not the only one that wants to get this change in.
Well when Plex decided to limit the amount of votes one can use, what else can you do to support a feature request?
And let’s be honest every other MP3 player supports the composer field. It’s something you should expect by default. The Plex Devs are either lazy or incompetent.
PLEX please, add the COMPOSER FIELD in the next release.
Still better : add it field like an option parameters.
Thank’s a lot !
Everywhere j have seen uses the author as the artist and composer as the narrator (audible, audiobooks.com)
+1 to add the soundtrack composer Field. The music is a main feature of a movie as an actor rôle. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!
Still waiting…
Edit:
Please, this is such a mandatory feature. It’s a miracle how this simple tag still didn’t get implemented. Plex music is unusable for classical music. Please add this tag!
Another plea for the composer tag to be made usable. If Plex feels that they should not appeal to the classical listeners, they can sell it as support for covers of other artists. For example:
“I shot the Sheriff” Bob Marley and the Walers or Eric Clapton?
“Red red wine” Neil Diamond or UB40
“Respect” Otis Reading or Aretha Franklin.
Surely it is about time to implement such an important outstanding feature request!
Just keeping this thread alive - more in hope than expectation at this point
I recently started using Plex to stream my music collection, a large chunk of which is classical.
A Composer field would be very valuable!
