Own TV Channel from Plex content

After thinking and searching for some weeks now, I found no available solution for my idea. Some people had similar thoughts, but their solutions needed additional hardware and were single user capable only.

I would like to provide TV-like channels to the Plex users within my server.
Other than the LiveTV/DVR possibilities in Plex, these TV-like channels should only consist out of video files already present in Plex libraries, nothing should come via IPTV or an external tuner.

Features:

  • Admin: Create and name an own Channel
  • Admin: Add video files from libraries to an EPG-like playlist (playlist needs to represent a 24h day and a few weeks). Maybe in a style like a calendar. Times without a scheduled video could be automatically filled with Trailers.
  • Users: Allow users to look at this new EPG playlist and jump in at the current timespot. E.g. if it’s 1:15 pm and there is an episode from STTNG scheduled from 1:00pm - 1:42pm, the user jumps in at this episose from minute 15 on.

So basically:
It’s an EPG planner and users can start watching whats scheduled.
Alternatively, create this EPG playlist outside Plex and just allow to import it, sync it with server time and start local files.

Why:
With many movies and series to choose from, it’s difficult to make a decision. With prepopulated EPGs, users can be engaged to watch something, they do not know or did not think about.

Options:

  • Create multiple channels
  • Give channels age restrictions
  • Give channels own Logos and Description

Hope you like it. And hopefully it’s not impossible to do.
I like the current EPG in Plex and think this could be the core of it, just with starting local files.

Greetings,
Duglim

This is very similar to PseudoTV

Your right, it’s similar.
My main use case would be to have this channel available for all users in their native apps.
PseudoTV on Kodi is a personal solution, as I understand. I want to provide channels to my users, not for me.

Did you ever make progress on this, would love it if you did
