Are we discussing Plex over the NVIDIA Shield only here? Or LG TV, or Android TV?
Will DV ever be triggered on a Roku TV (TCL) sans the Shield? I use the Plex Win10 app on my laptop as my server, feeding to a DTS capable soundbar.

See the description for the version release here: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=23306#p97004
Iām not sure which other rippers would include the DV stream, but not have proper DV metadata, but this release will supposedly fix them (yes, even files created from other software). It should definitely fix anything you ripped with MakeMKV 1.15.1 (1.15.2 is already outputting the correct metadata).
I may be getting a similar error using the Beta Release of Plex for Nvidia Shield displaying on a 2016 LG OLED and with Dolby Vision UHD conversion using either MakeMKV 1.15.2 or the recently released 1.15.3. Usually I can start with movie playback without problems the first time I press play. If I immediately stop the playback after a few seconds, then start playback of the same movie or even a different Dolby Vision MKV movie file the screen hesitates (turns black), then after a few seconds the playback stops and the screen shows āERROR The server is not powerful enough to convert videoā. If I then press play again (or sometimes a third time), Dolby Vision playback resumes.
The error displayed really does not make any sense since transcoding has been turned off and the player is streaming the video file directly from my 2019 MacPro without any conversion.
Methods of content acquisition are not really appropriate for this forum. If you wish to discuss these kinds of things, I would suggest you discuss those in DMs, or on a separate forum.
What do I do wrong!?
My setup is: Nvidia shield tv pro 2019, Panasonic hz1000, all ok for DV. Using the previous version of Plex, 8.7, Dolby Vision was triggered when playing some test files or single video channel mp4 with DV. Now after installing latest beta 8.8 Dolby Vision is not being displayed in any files.
Dolby vision is enabled in Nvidia shield.
Where can the problem be?
DoVi support for mp4, ts files seems broken in latest beta.
There is another thread discussing issues with this feature so can anyone having issues please discuss it over there. Newest Beta Dolby Vision Issue
This thread will get closed once the feature is out of beta.
Iām also having the intermittent HDR10 vs. Dolby Vision mode issue. However, even when it locks in and stays on Dolby Vision mode Iām getting severe color shifts (whites are all shifting heavily to green). Problem occurs on MKVs recently ripped with 1.15.3 as well as titles ripped on 1.15.1 reprocessed thru 1.15.3.
Anyone else having bad color issues when in DV mode?
Iām getting a red/pink overlay, although that might be related to the Shield and I am awaiting the hotfix to be pushed out to my device before I can confirm.
I get that too and Iām using the app on a Sony TV.
I have some some odd colours on some profiles. Sometimes rebooting the items in my chain (Shield, soundbar, TV) resolved the issue, and other times it appears to be related to the file or its profile. Not all devices support all the profiles, unfortunately.
Woo hoo! My recent rips using latest MakeMKV are triggering DV on my LG C9 via Shield Pro. Fantastic. Only issue I saw was one film triggered HDR but triggered DV when I stopped and started it again.
Can you get the client logs from that one where it didnāt trigger Dolby Vision, please?
Hi All.
I have been able to get Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with MKV working with the following config (see notes of issues though):
The issue I get is that I have to stop and start the movie a number of times at the beginning because it continues to default to HDR. However, after a number of attempts of starting and stopping and starting again, it selects Dolby Vision and plays just fine! Canāt wait for Plex to iron out that bug and we are good to go.
Yes, I will try it again to see if I can replicate the issue. I only experienced it once and moved on.
@DaveBinM and @anon18523487:
MovieFan.Plex moved the issues with this feature to another thread and I have been posting there, Newest Beta Dolby Vision Issue. Yet, people are still posting here on this thread. Which do you want?
You can post here is you want, but warning ^^.
I want to sideload this beta to my shield pro 2019. Which of these is the correct one?
Google Play (armv7a) 6
Google Play (arm64v8a) 16
Google Play (x86)
Google Play (x86_64) 1
This one: Google Play (arm64v8a) 16
I got a small issue i donāt believe is mentioned:
As i have a LG E6, which is limited to DV in max. 30 hz, i donāt believe Plex detects the DV capabilities of the TV correctly, and therefore i NEED to manually set 23.976 fps in shield settings before starting a DV file, otherwise it will run in HDR10. (The auto refresh rate change in plex does change to 23,976, but playback is without DV). Iām fairly sure it worked with the old .ts solution, but iāve migrated all my files to .mkv so i canāt really test that right now.
