For those of us who haven’t installed the beta yet, does Plex indicate on the details page somewhere that it detects the movie is Dolby Vision? That’d be good to spot check and make sure some disks I backed up using MakeMKV 1.15.1 are working correctly or if i need to reprocess them through ..3
Any MKVs made with 1.15.1 definitely need to be reprocessed by version 1.15.3 in order to fix the way the DV metadata is stored in the MKV.
Not at this point in time
So thanks again to the Plex team. In my opinion, this request is now finished and can be closed !? Then I would cast my vote elsewhere as well.
I’m on shield TV pro. I assume this is known, but it seems like FEL Dolby Vision files are not working yet. I am able to play them in Kodi and they trigger Dolby Vision but not in Plex. MEL files work fine in Plex so far. Since they both work in Kodi I assume this is something that can be fixed in an update to Plex. We’re so close here so I hope this will get addressed!
Go comment the issue here - plus explain which movie and share logs Only way they can fix it
Samples will also help even more
What I have just found out in personal testing is that I am getting Dolby vision trigger in stuff I wasn’t before just by playing it again. It seems to be a little touchy.
Just going back to this I wanna say thanks again.
Dev or not I do believe you had a major role in DV coming to Plex on the Shield.
If you see it not triggering DV, could you get some logs, please?
While I understand the concern for proper semantics, I believe in this context it is clear the reference was to “uncompressed” media from what was included on the source UHD disk. That is how I always interpret it.
Almost everyone here understands that there is little to no truly uncompressed commercial content available, whether disk or streaming service. As you point out, the uncompressed bandwidth is not technically very feasible in current consumer LAN hardware or Internet speeds.
I had a few issues at first getting DV to trigger but haven’t been able to replicate it since to gather logs. My main issue now is that every so often a stream starts and my TV flashes and then, finally, the DV logo kicks on and the stream starts. Occasionally it crashes back to the main Plex homepage.
If I can replicate that and have a moment, I will try to pull logs.
Apologies if I missed communication from Plex, but does anyone know if Plex will be implementing a Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos tag/logo in the movie UI? I see someone requested it here, but unfortunately it’s been closed due to inactivity.
Surely this could be easily implemented? Would be nice to easily see if our movies are Dolby Vision and/or Atmos now that we are getting super close to having both together
Edit: I’ve found another thread asking for this too (I’ve cast my vote!): Correctly identify & display Dolby Atmos, dts:X, and dts-HD MA audio tracks in Plex clients
@DaveBinM I just sent a DM with server logs. I can only get 1 movie to trigger DV…Black Panther. American Assassin, Birds of Prey, and Aquaman don’t work.
8.8? I haven’t seen 8.8 show up yet. I’ve checked every day since Wednesday. I’ve seen two plex media server updates, the player on my nvidia shield TV is still stuck at 8.7.2… I really want to play my Dolby Vision movies, and this waiting game is frustrating.
I would say this thread should stay open until Dolby Vision is working 100%. Right now it looks like the more complex Dolby Vision rips take a couple tries of starting and stopping and starting again to trigger it correctly.
“A day or two”. So far it’s more like “a day or four”. What is the maximum number of days I may have to wait?
Any chance this will be coming to the synology server package? I run plex from my synology Nas and would love to be able to utilize Dolby Vision!
the dolby vision is for the CLIENT, android in this case.
you need a shield or fire tv player.
what runs on your nas is plex SERVER.
Wouldn’t I need a Plex Pass to download it manually?
No 8.8.0 today; the rollout is now “a day or FIVE”.
OK perfect because I’m using nvidia sheild 2019. Thx to everyone for their input!
