[FEATURE REQUEST] Dolby Vision support for MKV on Apple TV 4K

A couple of paragraphs down.

The file also has to be CMv2.9 as CM4.0 is not supported but the latter will fall back to HDR10.
But as I said native playback for the tvOS/iOS 17 is scheduled for mid September.

I think that’s mostly signaling tricks to get playback working, not any real conversion. But I’ll read more over there.

There’s plenty to read.

If you’re suggesting it’s Fake DV which as we know is all Plex is capable of (beyond profile 5) on Apple devices then who knows, maybe the developer is lying. I would however have thought this would have been picked apart in the above reviews or at least one of the other 10 or so. (In the same way the tech sites ridiculed Plex for their bogus claims of “Dolby Vision Support.”
But also I would have thought if that was the case he would have also lied about Profile 7 in the same way as Plex still lies about it.
Either way Infuse actually give a way of turning Dolby Vision off…something totally lost on these idiots.

I’m not suggesting anything, and “Fake DV” is a weird term anyway.

Those links don’t explain what’s going on behind the scenes. There’s a lot in the forum though, I’m reading when I’m bored.

I’m not sure who you are calling idiots - maybe me, which might be reasonable enough. But like, ouch?

Definitely not you. Sorry you thought it was.
Fake DV is a weird term indeed. It fits in with Plex decision to implement it though with zero option to turn it off. They’re both equally weird.
Pretend DV may be a better term. Whatever we call it there is no Dolby Vision metadata present just a signal to trigger Dolby Vision mode on the tv. So what’s the point?
There’s are plenty of us who have been asking why for the last year or so since Plex shiny Blogpost about it. There wasn’t a single word on it from anyone at Plex in that time.

It took DaveBinnM’s unfortunate redundancy to shed some light.

Now he’s not confined to Plex speak he seemed happy enough with the term FakeDV.

For context this was regarding likely scenarios when the 17 OS’ land with native profile 8 support and surmises about how Plex deal with it.

His thoughts about it will be likely using the old player seem pretty spot on. After all, there’s not much gonna be happening with MPV any time soon.

Anyway it’s not like Fake DV is even remotely in the top three or four issues with Plex on Apple TV, so I’m slightly sad I even mentioned it.

with the new tvOS that apple is bringing out soon, is there a possibility to support both profiles of DV with Plex?

A possibility? Sure. But it’s likely so remote, so infinitesimally small, that hell has a better chance at freezing over.

In theory it should be just some code changes.

So would all the broken stuff on Apple devices in Plex.

However as @EnochLight mentioned about “Hell freezing over” I personally think he’s being far too optimistic.

This is fantastic news! Really hope you can see it though - feels like we’ve been waiting for Profile 8 support on Apple TV 4K for a millenium! We’re so close now that iOS 17 is out - keeping our fingers crossed this comes soon!

Any update on this?

No more update ?

no more update on DoVi P8 in MKV? it triggers Dolby Vision on TV, but it’s fake… DoVi metadata not processed (i have couple of test videos, which i cleanly see, if metadata are processed or not). Infuse is working properly (except CMv40 metadata, which should be fixed soon). But… I like Plex player more, so please, fix things!

Any update?
