Sometimes I don’t get a chance to set a DVR timer when a new season of something starts. In those cases I have my DVR set to grab “All Episodes”, which usually catches the re-runs. What stinks is that then I have to go back and manually purge duplicates, which is annoying.
It would be cool if Plex could have an option to record only episodes I do not already have when I set a timer for a show.
I second this.
Often I miss out on it recording a show, because its busy recording something it recorded last night.
It also would be better if it looked and see that its on twice this week for example, one conflicts with another recording so record only the other one that doesn’t conflict.

No, I record new and repeat episodes. Maybe the server records stuff you already have because you keep it in a different library?
I think the issue is that many of us do move the content from the original library where it was recorded, and when the DVR is determining whether you have the episode already or not, it only seems to look in the folder where it is set to record to. I followed a very sensible piece of advice to record into a specific folder, and then something like MCEBuddy can pick it up, strip adverts, convert into a lighter format etc, and then place it into my main media library - which is great, but then PLEX does not seem to understand this, and then just records again when the episode is re-broadcast (which is a pain!).
I would like Plex to look through all libraries which I have registered in PLEX to determine whether I have an episode or not - but of course, it will have to rely on the fact that I will leave the file name exactly as it was when first recorded.
Another example: Right now I am recording all the Thomas and Friends episodes off my local PBS affiliate, cause I am a badass like that, and have to go through once a week to purge all the duplicate recordings. One day I will be able to have a Thomas marathon and the closer i get the more purging I will have to do.
I am so sick of it recording american dad over and over, 4 copies of the same episode is way too many…, I just want it to finish recording the missed episodes…
Please PLEX, Please, fix it so when it is in the database, it doesn’t re-record without specifically being asked…
