There are two specific pieces of functionality that would take radio stations and custom mixes to the next level.
The ability to add or remove artists, albums or songs from a custom mix or radio station. If I add an album to Plex from another artist that would fit into a mix, I am unable to add it to an already existing mix. I have to create a new mix to add that artist. There are also some artists that put out albums or songs that don’t quite fit with the created mix, or you add an artist that you realize doesn’t quite fit with the mix or station. Being able to remove thoses artists, albums or songs without having to create a seperate playlist would be ideal.
The ability to add the currently playing song to another playlist or mix, or remove current playing song from the current mix, station or playlist. Similar to my first point, but giving the option to fine-tune a playlist, mix or station while listening to it.
This only addresses adding and removing artists, and is really a half measure as you are creating a new mix. Being able to add or remove single albums or songs is also what I am talking about.
And as a third point, it would be great to be able to rename the mixes that are made.
so basically you want to use a Mix as a starting point to create your own playlist to which you can add albums, drop songs etc. – and to be able to assign a name you like. Is that it?
I would also like to be able to dynamically fine-tune (edit) an active mix (ie pandora style > more like this < less like this).
I’m guessing it won’t happen though.
As far as treating a mix like a playlist, well it is not.
It is dynamic, like a smart playlist (which you cannot edit the tracklist of either).
Even if you chose the same artist(s), it would always be different.
As far as naming them, while perhaps maybe slightly more convenient, its really irrelevant because each mix is named uniquely as the seed artists which it was created as.
Your best bet for influencing the radios is 2 places..
plexamp > settings > playback > radio > degrees of separation
Feel free to correct me if I have a wrong understanding of now custom mixes work, but it seems like you select the artists you want in the mix, and then those are the only artists that play in that mix. My mixes haven’t played anything other than the artists that I have selected for the mix. If this is the case, a custom mix is very close to a playlist. It is easier to put together, and you can only listen on shuffle, but it is just a certain selection of songs. If this understanding of how mixes work is correct, it makes sense that being able to edit and fine-tune the mix should be a little more robust.
Thank you for pointing out the upcoming section below the player. I hadn’t discovered that yet. However, that doesn’t really solve the scenario I tend to find myself in. I tend to listen to music when I am doing other things. Driving, cleaning, mowing, etc. So I am not normally in a position to remove songs from the upcoming list until it pops up for me to listen. Also, I don’t think removing a song from the upcoming section will prevent it from coming up again.
