HI,
I actually started a discussion here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/185614/itunes-store-metadata#latest , but realized it is probably better to put it here in a feature request.
I have started creating a metadata agent that gets movie metadata (we could add tv shows too) from the iTunes Store Search API. It can be used to grab the iTunes Movie Poster artwork as well as the new ATV Parallax Artwork.
However I have run into 2 issues that I believe can only be solved with some Plex changes, and that could likely benefit Plex in the future.
The first main issue is that I do not see a way to save multiple metadata provider ids to a movie. So for instance we can not save the IMDB id and the iTunes ID to a movie or tv show. This causes issues with future lookups and multiple metadata associations. Then while looking at this I realized that this may actually come in handy for the ATV Search feature later down the road as it will more than likely need a way to map and link movies together.
The second issue of course support for parallax images in Plex. The file format is .lsr (https://developer.apple.com/tvos/human-interface-guidelines/icons-and-images/) and they can be downloaded by using the iTunes Artwork Url and changing .jpeg to .lsr. I can confirm that they are the same ones the ATV uses and can be opened in apples parallax viewer.
Here is the github I started based from the Plex MovieDB https://github.com/bassrock/iTunesMetadata.bundle
If you set it to be a primary provider it loads all the information from he store on a movie and can work to search.
Any thoughts or someone that can help guide in the plugin creation? Or possible to get this as a main feature in Plex?
