I realize that this has been requested before and that users have been asking for it for years. I read through those threads.
It is frustrating to very carefully go in and match to get the right art, or upload custom art, and have it look perfect only to wake up a few days later and find that it has changed. Worse, when I woke this morning, it had grayed out some art and despite matching would not let me select the matched art or any version of it. For example, Ace High. No Art showing. Matched it, No Art. Looking at the poster shows the art but selecting it, still blank. The only way to get the art was to select a completely different version or upload art. ( I saw post where Plex says that a refresh re-downloads and chooses the first image. Except it doesn’t and won’t.)
I started using iTunes when it was version 3 and eventually realized that it was never going to find the right art and that I would have to manually set it all for the thousands of albums I own. I am willing to do that with Plex, if I only have to do it once. I’d like to do it, lock the metadata in place and NEVER HAVE IT CHANGE. But despite many users requesting it, I can find no answer about why Plex won’t do it.
(BTW, TV series are a freaking nightmare to get right and today, art for Star Trek discovery disappeared and would not match or show. Again, uploading seems to the only fix. It also split previously merged series.)
I’d like someone from Plex to explain why this is not possible. Don’t give me work arounds that don’t work. Don’t complain that you can’t reproduce the problem. Just tell me why we can’t get a LOCK ALL METADATA toggle under the library settings.
