Feature Request - Left and Right Arrow Keys Jump Forward and Backward 15 seconds

A feature similar to Netflix or Youtube to jump forward or back with a quick arrow key press would make web viewing infinitely more intuitive and user friendly.

There are keyboard shortcuts available for seeking within media.

In the web app, press ? to bring up the keyboard shortcuts dialog which lists all of the available shortcuts.

We also have a support article detailing the shortcuts, but the app should always provide a canonical listing of what it is actually capable.

this is never NOT frustrating, every single freaking time i use the web player, i ruin my viewing experience because hitting left does all of the following:
returns to the previous item and begins playing from beginning, regardless of where it is in progress
erases the playback progress of the previous item
erases the playback progress of the current item
kicks you out of sequential viewing often, making you have to exit the viewer, and reselect an item/episode, and then scrub to where you left off - with zero knowledge of how far you were in, making you have to waste minutes of your life trying to find your spot, spoiling your show if you go to far… all because some one thought it was a good idea to buck all normal web viewing conventions and make the friggin arrow keys NOT SKIP FORWARD/BACKWARD !!!
seriously, give us the option to choose or reprogram what the keys do. this is silly.

I can’t believe it’s been over two years and this isn’t adjusted to behave live every other video player ever. Or even addressed in the forum by the devs. The number of times I hit left to skip back a moment only to find I completely screwed everything up and restarted the video is incredibly frustrating. This is like, a really bad design decision.

How often are people going to want to hit left arrow to completely restart a video, versus how many people want to skip backwards?

The frequency of me wanting to skip backward, versus restart a video must be 10,000 to 1. I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted to restart a video in one click. And if so, using left arrow is so the wrong key for that.

**BTW it’s f*cking insane that this message board uses unmasked email addresses as usernames by default and doesnt allow me to delete my post. Like wtf.

Can’t you just make the arrow keys do what comma and period does? If people can’t agree on what the keyboard shortcut layout should be, couldn’t you just make the keyboard controls customisable so that people can change it to their liking?

This is like groundhog day. Every time I ruin a viewing experience with this “feature,” I google a solution and find this page.

Jeez, Plex, just give us an option to make this act like other streaming UIs. I just want to be able to remap the shortcut keys in the config file.

Another +1 to everyone in this thread and a big “Plex, wtactualfuck are you doing?”

Have any users whatsoever requested that you use non-standard and destructive keybindings without offering any option? What makes you think pointing out the keybindings we actually know about rather than addressing the question is a appropriate?

Meanwhile we all get screwed over by your stubbornness and inability to even acknowledge your users :frowning:

+1 to everything in this thread. I curse Plex every time I hit the left arrow.

Please address this issue properly. I love Plex, however, it is seriously let down by this flaw. I have only been using Plex for a few months. Conversely, I have been making 10 to 15 second skips in media using the arrow keys for nearly ten years. This shift + arrow system I’m not (nor do I want to) getting used to. Additionally, if you develop a feature in which users can map custom keys, you should also enable the ability to customise how much time a press of the “small seek forward/backward” makes. Personally, ten seconds is too short and thirty seconds is too long. Great program otherwise.

A little closure here for folks who might read this thread in the future.
Today when I reflexively punched the arrow button to rewind, it actually worked on web client 3.77.4 and server 1.14.1.5488, perhaps earlier.

Huge thank you to Plex devs for fixing this.
