I was following on and off for a bit the discussion about getting a Guide on the Xbox one Plex client. I finally saw a rumbling that there was one so I logged right into my xbox to see if I could throw some news on in the background. Much to my dismay I cannot find a Guide or Live TV option. Reading further, it appears that I now need a tuner in order to enable the free Live TV channels and guide on Xbox One. Is that true?
From my iPhone I am able to pull up LiveTV guide no problem. I can also do this in the web client version once I log in. Can we get this added to Xbox One without the need for a tuner as well?
One other place where this surprisingly isn’t available: the Plex UI served up by my Synology NAS (where I have media server installed). Since it mirrors the regular plex web UI so closely, I would have thought Live TV would be available there as well.
Live TV / DVR requires a tuner to be installed on the Plex Media Server you’re using.
Not on the clients. Therefore if you got no tuner connected and setup on the Plex Media Server of your Synology NAS, you won’t be able to access Live TV through that server.
That being said… not all clients support browsing the guide using the “grid schedule”
Okay so yes, today it requires the tuner to access the free Live TV channels included with my premium pass.
My ask/request to the developers here is to decouple the [Live TV + grid schedule] feature from requiring a tuner for Xbox and the synology server. The goal is to watch Live TV on my xbox (much like I can from my phone app or the plex web UI) without having to install a tuner. I can even write this up as an agile story they can drop into JIRA if they’re watching this
Because there are methods to watch Live TV today without having a tuner, I’m asking if they can just make this available on every client.
