[Feature Request] Make Library portable

I have many usb portable hard disks and I would like the library to be already inside them, so that when I attach it to any PC, there is enough plex installed and I already see the library ready without having to recreate it or edit it. It should be perfect if library exists in drive with files within, in same unit.

I believe your request is at least partly overlapping with this one:

Please check and let me know if we can merge them to combine their votes.

yes, it’s similar, our focus is to have a more portable library, more related to files and folders that we know they will not change and less related to only one server.

I sort of figured a way under tv and movie libaries i make more folders and put the drives in the folders then this helps keep them seporated but does not solve plex deleting them if they are unpluged. need a way to set them not to update when i press update.

Uncheck Empty trash automatically after every scan in Settings > Library

From https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289526-library/

Empty trash automatically after every scan

Choose to empty the library Trash after every update. With this option enabled, when an item’s file is deleted from the drive, it will be removed from the Plex library on the next scan. Disabling this option keeps the item in the library with an indicator superimposed over the item’s poster when the item is removed.

if i understand the trash is what plex uses to remove shows from its database that it does not see drives for. so if you plug and unplug drives plex has to keep retrieving the metadata and delete it again after the drive is unplugged. I set mine so i hope plex does not go online to get metadata as my media may have similar names to some online shows but plex gets them wrong most of the time. I just want plex to use the metadata in the folder and nothing else. I just make up my own metadata and file names for the videos i make.

no news about? i think have some library under selected root directory is the better way, whe i plug in a usb drive will be zero time to add in global library

use a software called Snap2HTML it can create your library as a single html page with search function and tree view options here is an example as long as your files dont move you just add too it
Media server.zip (144.6 KB)

i think i misread the post i do apologise i have 12tb server setup so i dont have this issue of different drives
