[FEATURE REQUEST] Make PlexAmp more mobile data-friendly

I really love PlexAmp with it’s modern design. It really provides me with a unique feeling compared to other players. However a friend and I have a few points we would love to see in PlexAmp to make it our daily driver for listening to music on-the-go. For context: I am a student from germany, so there are two factors at play here. Firstly, the mobile network in germany can be spotty at best or unusable at worst (for example in my school), secondly I can’t afford a lot of data as in germany data is ridiculously expensive. This is why I would like a few features in PlexAmp to make it more mobile data friendly ranked from most important to least important (but still desireable). I would really love to see those features added so PlexAmp can be my Dream-Player.

My Wishlist

  1. Make the items in the Downloads-menu open full lists like items in the Library-menu. This would really be a huge quality-of-life improvement.
  2. When searching or exploring the library and playing a song, check the local store for the song to be played and load locally instead of streaming
  3. Search offline-items when server can’t be reached
  4. Cache the library items and home screen offline (maybe grey out items not reachable?)
  5. Add an “only show offline”-switch to the library

This would greatly improve PlexAmp in my opinion. Let me know if you think!

  1. I’ve heard this is on their list to include in future update.
  2. ensure you have settings > downloads > Prefer downloaded media set to always.
  3. see number 2.
  4. when offline the home screen will display “Whoops - we had an issue getting data from [server name] and we’re pretty bummed about it… retry”, i believe the only thing usable are settings and dowloads tab.
  5. From my observation people HATED the Show offline button in the regular plex app… i don’t know if they’ll do the same for plexamp, but that’s what downloaded tab is for.

  1. That’s great to hear! I’m really thrilled for that update.
  2. Actually I have set “Prefer downloaded media” and it still seems to stream from the server (I tested it by turning off wifi and playing something I know I have offline and it just buffered for ever). I don’t know if this is just a problem with my device or what it is.
  3. Search is not working offline
  4. Yeah, I know it does that, but there it would be nice if recommendations would be cached on the device when it still has connectivity.
  5. If feature 1 gets implemented the Downloads-tab would be nice to use, but currently it just can’t do what I want to do
