+1 this as well. I see this topic has died off lately. So did i miss a feature in Plex? Media Browser / EMBY had a great plug-in to do box sets. Miss that feature a lot! Cleaned up the library and didnt have to use a search function and my bad memory to get to the next movie in the series. Originally you had to use [boxset] tag on your main directory and then put all the movies under it. They would then be in one folder and one main boxset poster. It was a time consuming process to get set up the first time but it worked well. Then they added the mentioned plug-in. This went thru the meta (using the collection # ID from IMDB i believe) and automatically created the boxsets. Very painless and very accurate. The only thing that needed to be set up was how many movies in the collection were needed to be considered before creating a boxset entry. I used two or more. This way i did not have a bunch of boxsets with only one movie inside it. It did not require moving movies into a main boxset folder so i assume it was a code / shortcut database somewhere running local that did it. Files were not touched and no user intervention required.
By far this is the one thing i miss the most from my years with media browser / emby!
There are several existing requests for this, which results in the votes being split. This thread should be closed, and you should vote for this feature by clicking ‘Like’ on the first post in this thread, since it has the most traction.
I’m upvoting this as well. I think I requested pretty much this exact feature 3.5 years ago - ie the ability to not just create a collection, but view your collection on a nicely formatted page so that it feels like more than mere tagging.
The problem isn’t the how to work around it, the problem is the devs dont want to implement the way it works in emby / xbmc. I tried the collection set up and it doesn’t sort by the collection
I think it would be nice e able to add My Collections to the home screen. Add it along with the “On Deck” or “Recently Added”. Make an option so that you can select to show your collections. Or even making a Collections selection right along with “Movies”, “TV Shows”, “Music”, etc… I like the collection ability, but it just feels burried and difficult to get to.
yet another thread splitting the votes on Collections…
Please everyone go to the original request thread and vote by liking it so we can have one comprehensive tally and maybe get the Devs attention!
The problem isn’t so much an inability to group via collection…You can easily filter for collections which is probably why the Devs seem to be not interested in what we are looking for…
The REAL problem is on the main Movie Browsing page which does not flatten collections and therefore makes browsing for a movie quite impossible with a large library.
If all I wanted was to find a group (collection) I can easily do that.
The problem isn’t the grouping of collections it is the lack of being able to find movies that are NOT in a collection on the main browse title page because all those collections are listed as one offs.
I don’t know why the Devs seem to ignore this major issue and keep mentioning how you can filter for collection groups when the problem has nothing to do with them and everything to do with finding a movie not in a collection!
For anyone interested, I spent a little time and pulled all of the posts related to “Collections” (that I could find) into sort of a summary post with counts. Its pretty interesting to see how many posts there were on the same idea and how popular a lot of them were. Just goes to show how many people are interested in this feature and also on how little attention it seems to be getting from the development team :-/ Maybe by pulling together some stats we might be able to encourage some actual progress?
