I've seen a few posts about this topic, but they've either been thrown in as an aside ("oh, and by the way photos and videos would be nice"), or not been the primary source of discussion. Apologize in advance if this is a duplicate of an existing feature request, but I couldn't find one that specifically addressed this issue.
Use case
I store and access all my home videos and photos from my NAS, but I have no good way to view them. I tried with Plex, but was surprised to see that I'm forced to separate the videos and photos, even tho these (obviously!) belong together in the same album. I take both pictures and videos at the same time, and they should logically be viewed in the same context.
Request
What I'd like to see from a combined album and video category is just to keep the current user interface and browsing for photos, but include videos and allow playback of said videos in the same view.
Suggestion
See attachments for a quick mockup of what it could look like.
That's kind of an old topic, but that would make sense; considering how common it is to mox videos and pictures for holidays albums... I believe mostictire managers mix both videos andictures for that reason.
+1. I have been used Windows Media Center with Media Browser and it has this functionality. Just moved to Plex and was surprised to see this missing. Would love to see this added. Thanks.
Especially with Apples new release of their ‘Photos’ app forcing everyone to buy into cloud based storage to share photos and videos, there seems to be no simple solution to storing and organising our personal media. Plex could offer the best alternative to share personal media not just through the home wifi but via internet as well.
Plex handles my Movies and TV shows fantastically. The only reason I don’t use it for Photos is because I can’t view my videos from the same album, when they were taken together. It doesn’t need a slideshow, or play all feature. The same way that your phone does when scrolling through the camera roll, or like the playback feature on any ‘point-and-shoot’ or DSLR camera with video capabilities.
I understand that it’s way more difficult then I’m making it sound. And to some, mixing videos and pictures in the same album is ludicrous, and not ‘sorted’ at all. It’s not so much about the sorting but having the ability to present media seamlessly. (e.g showing your friends the photos and videos of your overseas trip (in the order that they appear on your camera roll)
One of the biggest problems right now is what to do with all our photos and videos. Taking them is easier than ever. So is sharing them. But storing and organizing them all and having them easily presentable is a nightmare! Plug this gap and Plex will become the best media storage, organising, and viewing solution available. Period.
Thanks again for a great application that I use pretty much everyday. This feature of combining video's and photos would help me solve the problem of having to keep duplicate folders for events that I take both photos and videos. This becomes more painful each time I add more content. With this feature I am certain I would be able to convince many others to move over to PLEX as well.

This has been implemented. Not as a new Library type, but Photo libraries will now include videos as well, as of Server version 1.1.0.
Hey beckfield. Are you a developer with Plex? If so, do you know what other features are on the way for the Photo section of Plex?
I really wish they add some needed features to Photo Library. For instance, labeling or playlist for sharing specific pictures. Other libraries have this features.
