Is there a way to limit Syncing to when the server is discovered to be local? I understand there is a toggle to enable/disable cellular sync, but I am asking specifically to only sync when on Wifi AND on the local network.
The use case is that my upload at home is terrible, and the connection is metered. I would like to be able to queue up some conversions remotely, and have them download only when I get home.
The other common use case is that I will set off a bunch of conversions when at home and go to bed, thinking that they will all be on my phone when I wake up. Sometimes, the conversions complete, but the files don’t upload to my phone (plex process was killed off or put in background state. When I then get to work, connect to Wifi, and open plex, the downloading portion of the sync kicks off (exactly what I DON’T want to happen).
Server-side or client-side controls would be great.
The wish is a bit older, but nevertheless it has lost its validity. I wish that this feature will be implemented for the follow up feature “downloads”.
I think it would be a great idea add another toggle to the sync settings on mobile apps besides cellular data.
The feature I am proposing is a toggle to only allow sync when the device is “nearby” the server, and not on wifi but “remote”.
The use case is, for example, that I have a data capped internet connection that is very asymmetrical in nature (300/10). I queue up a bunch of sync conversions on my device, and the server gets busy converting them. If I can get them all on my device before I step out, great! If, however, all of the encodes aren’t done, I’m in trouble. I get to work, hop on the wifi, and open the plex app. Now all of a sudden the remaining files will start downloading over my slow upload that is data capped.
In these cases, the restriction of only local or nearby syncing would be a huge help!
You could also have an option to only allow Sync on certain Wifi networks or APs. eg I wouldn’t mind allowing sync from fast hotel Wifi when I’m travelling, but not from my mobile hotspot.
