one of the problems with the filtering (particularly in genres) is that using more than one filter is next to useless, due to the fact that it will show all results for any title that has one genre match. so “family” & “comedy” will return both finding nemo and also south park. similarly if i have a collection of movies i like and my friend has a collection of movies they like there is no easy way to determine what intersects.
however that is not to say the OR selection is useless either… For instance, if i want to watch a tolkien movie i can select from the “lord of the rings collection” and “the hobbit” collection and get the combined sum of the two collections.
i’d suggest a toggle switch similar to the “unwatched” switch located at the top of the corresponding filter page (next to “deselect all”). this would not only speed up finding a specific movie (as there is less noise to wade through) but also cut down on the need to utilize subgenres do filter down only what you want.
Plex has no interest in allowing greater user control via and/or/not operators etc.
They think their users are simply too stupid to use such “advanced” and “powerful” features without injuring themselves. Plex wants to keep the “sharp” tools out of the hands of the kiddies so the little ones do not injure themselves or others.
I whole hardheartedly agree. This is basic “search functionality” and results in the UI being somewhat confusing. When tagging content I think most users are under the impression that they are using “AND”.
In either case give us the option in the settings to use an OR operand or the AND
My thoughts are of a similar matter when it comes to filtering, although in my case, I want to just be able to filter OUT a certain label instead of having to add labels to every show.
So perhaps the ability to instead of “Only allow TV shows matching the ratings or labels below.” a switch to “Filter all TV shows matching the ratings or labels below.” (or Movies). That way you only need to add the Label (or Rating).
EG, I have friends that watch certain movies, but I don’t want their kids to see anything too violent, so instead of having to make sure the rating is fine, or the label is there for each one. I just simply need to add perhaps a label of “non-family friendly” to those I know I don’t want to show when I share my library with them (or anyone else)
