Feature request: per user bandwidth limits

+1 please. I know about the global limit, which is fine, but there are a couple of particular users that I want to apply a bandwidth limit to whilst leaving the others unaffected and still bound to the global limit.

WILD!, its now 2025 and this still hasn’t been done, sheeesh, come on!.

Please implement this. Coming from Kodi, I’m kinda shocked it hasn’t been a thing here seeing how well featured plex is.

As a Lifetime Plex Pass purchaser, it’d sure be nice if I/we could get this feature this decade… possibly…. maybe. Just saying.

I mean, we’ve been waiting a DECADE already (from the date the feature request was submitted originally.) What’s the hold up here?

Yes, please.

I’ve got family that can stream 4k HDR and others who still have 1080p SDR TVs. But, I have no granularity to make things easier on my server. So for the 1080p SDR folks my GPU is transcoding 4k HDR to 4k SDR because I can’t set a 1080p limit for that user.

I vote for this too. I have a fire tv built into my minivan entertainment system and use plex primarily to listen to my favorite shows while driving over cellular and would like an easy way to restrict the bandwidth so I dont have so much buffering or exceed my data per month. Shouldnt it be easy to add this as a user setting on the admin page? Thanks!!

if you have a separate client in the vehicle, you would just change the Remote Streaming quality setting in the normal Settings to a cellular-friendly bitrate, just like you would for a mobile phone.

For a per-user bandwidth limit to be useful in this situation, you would need to create a special Plex user profile specifically for the van to use. Otherwise, you would effect your Plex playback on other devices you own as they would all be on the same “user” as the van.

I can’t believe this isn’t a thing.
