The ability to share access to scheduling recordings would be great. My wife and I share a house with her parents, being able to share live TV with them is a plus, but being unable to provide them access to recording shows, just seems tedious.
I would imagine having there be recordings by user, that other users (aside from the server admin) can’t change or delete. That way, if one user scheduled a recording, and one of the others tries to change that recording to delete it, they can’t, same goes for recorded content.
I need this as well, I imagine it could work a couple of ways,
a) like you described
b) set up a unique or shared library for recordings for each user depending on the use case
Caveats:
- Can you see the shows other people are recording? How do you manage ownership/deletion etc of files.
- you would need to warn on scheduling conflicts if it exceeds the number of available tuners.
- managing disk space (set a quota per user maybe?)
This doesn’t need to be complex. We can already set a default recording area so by default any/all recording done by non admins could be recorded to that library. The admin as always can setup or modify the default recording location.
Then all normal access levels apply to viewing said library. Just doing this simply allows Plex to duplicate the functionality of the typical set top box allowing family members to record.
Of course more advanced functions are welcome but not needed to get basic functionality we don’t have yet.
Another +1 for this. Even a simple solution with a flat permissions structure - all users who are granted access to the recording schedule can add/delete any scheduled recordings - would be useful for now.
