According to this thread, using the provided RPM package is not a supported installation option for use within Docker images:
While Plex is available in an official Docker image, this does not allow for easy customization of the runtime environment. Many users do build custom Docker images for Plex Media Server (just do a search in Github to see), and I’ve been doing this since 2015 (around Plex Media Server 0.9.12-ish).
The current RPM for Plex Media Server would be perfectly suitable for use in Docker, if the installation scripts didn’t impose a strict requirement on systemd. A separate RPM package option without this requirement would meet this need perfectly.
In fact, I’m currently using rpmrebuild to create my own custom versions of the RPM, just by commenting out the check for systemd and any calls in the installation scripts to systemctl (no other changes made). However, I would very much prefer to be using a supported option, rather than having to rely on customizations with every release.
