[Feature Request] Remote, Local and Mobile quality settings on Android

I have several Android tablets/phones, etc. Plex has been running fine on these device, but I see something that I’m more than a little frustrated with.

When I go into the Settings -> Video I see settings Quality over WiFi and Quality over Mobile Network. On my tablet, with no cell service or mobile service these choices make no sense. Does the Roku have these setting choices? Or the ATV?

We used to have settings there for Quality for remote and quality for Local (or something to that effect.) we also hade a setting for Quality over Mobile. This made sense, because I could set the bitrates to something on my LOCAL network, and something when I was streaming from a remote location and still get bufferless viewing of media. I know the iOS client has had these settings for a while. We did for Android. Why are they gone now?

Now I have to go in and change this setting based on if I’m Remote or Local to the PMS server. instead of setting them and then basically forgetting them.

While I think that server side bandwidth/bitrate limits are where we need to be, combining remote and local settings together seems a step backwards. Until Server Side limits are in place we need a way to maximize the viewing experience, not make more configurations to get there.

Can we get the three settings back? Remote, Local and Mobile? So setting these for a local connection (Same DHCP server, same subnet, etc.) can more easily take advantage of the higher bitrates when local. Then use lower bitrates when remote and the connection may not support the speeds of the faster connection.

It should have settings for music as well not just video…

A setting for online content like watch later queue as well. I’ve just discovered those won’t play when you’ve got the limit set to 720kbps. My guess is this is the same for trailers though I haven’t tried them.

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (video playback quality for home, internet and mobile streaming)
