I have shared my Library out with several friends and family. However, some of them don't quite understand how to adjust streaming quality. I don't have much upload with my residential connection.
It only makes sense for the person sharing out their library to put a cap on the quality/bandwidth that is consumed. For example, I would love to keep my max quality at 3.0 MB 720p, instead of people being allowed to use direct stream, or 8+ MB.

The opposite functionality of this would also be great to have. So for example if you have a lot of upstream bandwidth and share with multiple people you may not want everything transcoded if not needed so it would be great to force direct play for those that can to save server CPU.
So it would be great to have freedom in how to use this functionality of "filtering" what the client can and can't do.

This would be a great feature for those of us with multiple remote users and local broadband companies stuck in the 2000’s whose best package includes a decent downstream speed, but a horrible upstream, like 4Mbit.
Would love to see this as well, i had to set up a second Plex server to add additional CPU’s for plex to use. The first server runs plex on it, and has the content stored locally, and then shares its drives out. the second server mounts the shared drives and runs on a different port externally. I have more upstream bandwidth than i know what to do with(300 meg), so i don’t want my users to transcode if possible.
